Greer Today

The November 9 edition of Greer Today featured an article entitled “”Wyche receives prestigious YMCA Red Triangle Award.”

The article highlights that Wyche attorney, Tommy Wyche, received on November 8, 2012 the YMCA Red Triangle Award, joining a select group of 20 previous winners since the Greenville YMCA opened in 1876. Red Triangle recipients in recent years include Rick Pennell, Minor Shaw, the late Bob Coleman, Ralph Hendricks, the late Judd Farr, Mary Sterling, Paul Goldsmith, Gally Gallivan, Frank Halter, Danny Schaaf, and Ben Keys.

The article highlights that “The award is given in recognition of exemplary volunteer service to the YMCA. It honors those who have given generously of their abilities, their resources, and their time, in order to advance the work and the mission of the YMCA.”

According to Scot Baddley, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greenville, special characteristics of the exceptional leaders recognized for the Order of the Red Triangle Award include:

  • Extraordinary vision and the ability to lead others in ways that make our community unique and a desirable place to live.
  • An understanding of what is truly important in life.
  • They are leaders who think profoundly and with the big picture in mind.
  • They lead principled lives of high moral character, integrity and honesty.
  • They are people who possess an “abundance” mindset and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
  • They always seek to do things to move toward the greater good.

“Tommy was instrumental in the acquisition of the property for the Y on Cleveland Street back in 1960 and in fundraising for its construction. He played a major role in the rebuilding of this, our flagship branch, in 2008. He has, through volunteer service as a board member and donor, helped to improve and expand our outreach and mission in this community,” said Scot Baddley, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greenville. “He has had a positive impact upon generations in this community.”

“Tommy Wyche is a man of extraordinary vision. His quiet, creative leadership and determination have transformed our community, not only in Greenville but also in our entire Upstate region,” said Shaw. “The quality of life we enjoy today in Greenville and the Upstate is a direct result of Tommy’s visionary leadership and commitment over many years. We would not have the Hyatt, RiverPlace, the trees on Main Street, much of what we have in Reedy River Park, or the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, without Tommy’s leadership and determination.”

Tommy is also a nature photographer whose work is featured on the interior walls of the Caine Halter Family YMCA.

He is one of the founding members of our law firm, Wyche, P.A. and has been working here for more than 60 years, practicing in areas ranging from corporate to environmental to tax law.
