Henry L. Parr, Jr., Member
Henry has represented clients, plaintiffs and defendants, in complex litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts for almost thirty years. He has presented cases to juries in state and federal courts and has also presented appeals to the South Carolina Court of Appeals, the South Carolina Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. His cases have included class actions involving software, electrical outlets, and arbitration, as well as individual lawsuits involving a wide range of complex civil litigation matters such as defective products, wrongful termination, commission disputes, conspiracy, patent infringement, slander, unfair trade practices, constitutional law, insurance coverage, and contractual disputes.
In addition, Henry has represented clients before administrative law judges and arbitrators and serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.
Henry also advises clients on antitrust, distribution and trade secret issues and in the preparation of distribution and trade secret agreements.
Representative Matters
- Obtained summary judgment for a leading seller of software and hardware in federal court in Columbia, SC in a lawsuit involving antitrust, unfair trade practices, conspiracy, and wrongful termination claims exceeding $100,000,000.
- Obtained verdict in excess of $2,000,000 in trade secrets lawsuit involving the defense industry in federal court in Anderson, SC after jury trial.
- Obtained award in excess of $1,000,000 in commercial arbitration contract dispute.
- Obtained summary judgment for newspaper accused of antitrust violations in federal court in Anderson, SC.
- Successfully defended clients accused of criminal price fixing in jury trials in federal courts in Richmond VA, Greenville, SC and Charleston, SC.
- Obtained a certificate of need for hospital client after three-week trial before administrative law judge.
- Defense (ongoing) of derivative action in federal court in Spartanburg, SC against publicly held company involving back dating allegations.
- Lead counsel for petitioner in Spencer v. South Carolina Tax Commission 281 S.C. 492, 316 S.E. 2d 386 (1984), aff’d by an equally divided court, 471 U.S. 82 (1985).
